Preparation for Holy Week and Easter - children's colouring pictures.

Dear children, in the month of August we celebrate some special feasts of Our Lady.  Why not ask a grown up to download this picture for you to colour and then talk about what the picture represents. How many special feasts of Our Lady can you name which take place during the month of August?

Mary is Queen of Heaven and Earth

CHILDREN'S CORNER

Feast of the Presentation

Why not ask a grown up to read to you from St Luke's Gospel, chapter 2. It is the story of how baby Jesus was presented to God in the Temple, by his parents, as was the custom in his time and how the Holy Spirit revealed to an old man and woman who Jesus truly was.
Can you see some more animals in this picture too? Why do you think they were there?

Do you know the names of the Wise Men who went in search of Jesus?  Do you know wheat gifts they brought to baby Jesus?  How did they get to Bethlehem?

Why not listen to the story of Jesus' birth again and while you are thinking about it, you could colour in this image of the Baby Jesus in the manger. Which two animals were also present?
At a Family Day in Siol Dochais recently some of our visitors also coloured in the picture. Below is the work of two budding artists.

Animals in the Bible Colouring Book

Picture
This colouring book, with original drawings by Marie Therese de Ruffray, is a lovely focus of attention on different Bible stories, which involve animals and can lead to some great conversations with little people about the faith.  With each drawing, there is a Scriptural reference written both in English and Irish. Pages are joined by a spiral, making them easily detachable.

Preparation for Holy Week and Easter - children's colouring pictures.

The Prodigal Son

Once there was a son who asked his father for his share of the inheritance. He went away with the money to a foreign land and spent it all. When he got hungry he decided to work looking after pigs but even then he hadn’t enough to eat. He decided to go home to his father. His father was waiting for him with his arms out waiting to hug him and welcome home. Our Father in Heaven is like that, whenever we go off and do things that are displeasing to Him, he waits for us to come back to him. When we are sorry he is ready to give us a big hug! Coming up to Easter it would be good for us to prepare our hearts for this big day by going to confession and telling our Heavenly Father that we are sorry for all our sins.

The Miraculous Catch

After the Resurrection, Peter decided to go fishing with some of the disciples. They fished all night and caught nothing. When day came, they saw someone on the shore who said to them put out your nets to the other side. They didn’t know that it was Jesus. But they obeyed him and when they put out their nets, they caught so many fish that they couldn’t bring the net into land. Then John the beloved disciple recognized Jesus and said “it is the Lord”.

The Cock Crew

In this picture we see St Peter crying while Jesus is carrying his cross behind, and there is a cock      crowing. At the last supper, Jesus told Peter that before the cock crowed Peter would have denied Jesus three times. This is exactly what happened.  When Jesus was taken prisoner, Peter pretended to all those who asked him that he didn’t know Jesus, because he was afraid. When Peter heard the cock crow he started to cry because he was so sorry for having denied Jesus.
