Saturday 16th August 9-10pm
Vigil of prayer for persecuted Christians in Iraq
This persecution of one of the oldest Christian communities in Iraq is not new. In 2007, Fr Ragheed Ganni who studied for the priesthood in the Irish College in Rome was gunned down for refusing to close his Church “How can I close the House of God?” were his last words. The persecution continues, but has reached appalling proportions, tens of thousands forced to flee their homes in the middle of the night – a real Via Crucis. This is an invitation to come and watch with us in Hampton for an hour this Saturday night before the Blessed Sacrament, in communion with our persecuted brothers and sisters in Iraq. Light a candle and pray for people just like us, asked to make the ultimate sacrifice for their faith today
